Gold Medal American Fine Wine 2011 Wine Competition

100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 200 cases made, 113 available.

Our signature wine from our namesake growing region.  Many critics believe that the cool climate at the higher Mt. Veeder elevations and the thin volcanic soils produce Cabernets that are as good as any from Napa Valley, this wine compares favorable with not only the best of the Napa Valley but also the best of Bordeaux. A bold, masculine Cabernet Sauvignon which possesses both elegance and structure with rich textural body.  The grapes for this distinctive Cabernet come from high on Mt. Veeder near to where the Oakville Crossroads crosses Mayacamas Mountains line between Sonoma and Napa counties.  There is a complex bouquet of black olives, raspberry, nutmeg, rhubarb, cedar and cherry.   Dark vibrant fruit and spice on the tongue lead up to velvety luxurious mid pallete lingering finish.  Try with any grilled red meats, roasted prime ribs of beef, and also with complex dishes such as cassoulet, bouef bourguinon or coq au vin.  Needs decanting, open well in advance or laying down in a fine wine cellar.  Fermented in stainless tanks  prior to being aged in five  different kinds of French oak for a minimum of  thirty six months prior bottling.15.4% alcohol.  Residual sugar-zero.  Total Acidity: 0.61 grams / 100ml.   $125 per bottle retail.

James Suckling commented that these Mt. Veeder wines…..”(Are) a racier style of Cabernet from California. Must be the mountain fruit. Lots of cherries and spices on the nose with hints of minerals. Full yet balanced with a supple tannin structure. Give it a few years of bottle age to mellow”

Bordeaux Blend – 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 2.5%  Petite Verdot, 2.5% Cabernet Franc

200 Cases Produced, 173 cases available.

This award winning wine, rated one of the top eleven wines  in the “over $60 category” (the top category in the 2010 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest competition in the state). The Tittel Coloynnaides vineyard on Glass Mountain, St. Helena AVA, is one of the most unique vineyards in the state. Planted at an altitude of approximately 500’ on the east side of the Napa Valley, it benefits from the cool shade of the shadow of Howell Mountain.  This small 2.5 acre vineyard was analyzed from a geological standpoint, broken into small plots, and various Cabernet Sauvignon clones were then matched to the respective plots’ mineral content.  This wine is our Bordeaux style blend, the 2006 consisting of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 2.5% Cabernet Franc and 2.5% Petite Verdot.  Soft, smooth supple and elegant.  Cascading aromsa of black current, fig, chocolate, mulberry, plum jam and spices.  Plush velvety tannins, amply body, excellent for drinking now but can also lay down for five years. Wine made by other wineries prior to our gaining rights to this vineyard have been awarded 95 points (100% cabernet) and 93 points (88% cabernet blend) by Robert Parker. The wine was fermented in stainless steel prior to being aged in five different kinds of French oak for thirty six months prior bottling.   Alcohol 14.8%, Residual Sugar – zero, Total Acidity 0.59 grams/100ml.  $85 per bottle retail.

Oakville - Napa Valley Chardonnay

VILLA MILLE ROSE VINEYARD – OAKVILLE 2009 CHARDONNAY

Silver – San Francisco Chronicle 2011 Wine Competition

This is our Chardonnay made specifically for those of love to hate California Chardonnay.  The fruit for this vintage was all grown in the shade (all fruit on the south or sunny side of the vines was dropped), the grapes were full berry fermented in stainless steel, and then “rested” for a couple of months in used, untoasted French oak barrels to give a mouth feel but no oak flavors.  This wine is crisp and lemony, acidic, with apple, pineapple and mango flavors. It is lean and elegant and can easily be paired with oysters or filet of sole Veronique.  Not your usual California Chardonnay, make in the style of the great Chardonnays of the Piemonte region of Italy and the Chablis region of Burgundy.  Much more characteristic of a sauvignon blanc but truly 100% Chardonnay.  There are only a few wineries left in California making wine in this traditional style.  Veedercrest was recognized at the 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting for making the most French style Chardonnay of all the Chardonnays entered for the tasting, and we still make it the same way.  The estate grown Villa Mille Rose Chardonnay comes from a growing region east of Highway 29, and just north of the Oakville Crossroad, behind Opus One,   and near to Nickel & Nickel, Saddelback,  Silver Oak, Round Pound, Gargiulo, and Groth, in one of the Napa Valley’s legendary growing regions.

Vintners Reserve Wines - Aged a Minimum of Four Years

CABERNET SAUVIGNON–2005

Rutherford  Winery Reserve, Napa Valley

Blended with 10% Merlot

600 cases produced, 350 cases remaining

The 2005 Rutherford Reserve was aged in oak barrels for four years before being bottled in 2010.  Vinified in the French tradition, the wine was concentrated by drawing off the first twenty percent of free run juice. The resulting wine is concentrated with nuances of black cherry, spice and vanilla and with overtones and finish of mocha flavors.  While femented dry, the chocolate/coffee overtones make this an ideal wine to serve with tiramisu or chocolate sauces such as found on a chicken mole. The grapes come from two famous Napa estates, one just east of Highway 29 and the other just west of the Silverado Trail.
